BETWEEN 2008 AND 2011 LOCUS DEVELOPMENTS CONVERTED THE HISTORIC COTTON WAREHOUSE "LOODS 22" (pronounced loads 22) INTO A CONTEMPORARY MIXED USE RESIDENCE AND BUSINESS CENTER. USING THE LINKS BELOW YOU CAN FIND MORE INFORMATION ON AVAILABLE RESIDENTIAL LOFTS, OFFICE SPACE AND OTHER UNITS IN LOODS 22.
LOODS 22 is the oldest of 5 similar cotton warehouses that were built between 1880 and 1890 along the Avant-Port. LOODS 22 was built entirely with new materials, whereas warehouses 20, 21, 23 and 24 were largely built with recycled steel elements from exposition buildings at the Antwerp World Exposition of 1885. The construction of the Avant-Port at the foot of the canal from Terneuzen to Ghent doubled the capacity of the Ghent Harbor.
LOODS 22 has 4 levels. On the 2nd and 3rd floor there are 21 duplex residential lofts. The first floor has an elevation of 4 ft., representing the loading level of the steam trains that used to frequent Loods 22. There are a total of 17 business units on this floor, some of which were joint together into larger units. With the renovation of Loods 22 LOCUS DEVELOPMENTS took an important first step in order to attract new economic activity to the neighborhood. It is our plan to realize a cluster of innovative businesses in Loods 22 and 23. Loods 22 has a beautiful brick and steel cellar of roughly 40.000 sqf. Individual storage units are also available here. We plan to turn about 30.000 sqf. of this space into the largest wine cellar of Flanders, DOCK - EAU - VIN.
In LOODS 22 you have the opportunity to live and / or work in a building of historic value. LOODS 22 received Listed Monument status in 1996, together with more than 13 other buildings and structures in the area. "Voorhaven (Avant-Port) and Tolhuis" is the largest historic district of the city of Ghent.
